welcome to the wiki. If I can be of help, let me know. - Zoycite

re: color[edit]

I believe the colors chosen are meant to match the colors in the game. Ask Lorak990 which to do, he knows the LoTS section better than anyone. Though If you need a particular color it could be added. I no longer play LoTS. Thanks - Zoycite

Colors used[edit]

Thought i'd add the list of colors that should be in use for linking categories with the LotS/ColorLink template, i'll check the other color template's later, as there are slightly different colors used.Lorak990 14:27, 23 July 2012 (CDT)

What about the colors used for linking other items? Say that I want to link a game item, using the color of the item to link. Also: where are these colors stored? Are they wiki defaults? If I had to take a guess, it looks like the Lots/ColorLink template uses wiki default colors, and the color associated with the Item template uses the custom colors that override the wiki defaults. Any way to make these match? Klaxxin 15:57, 23 July 2012 (CDT)

Yes the colors were default wiki colors with bypass using the Colorlink template which you can add any color hex code to, It looks like you already made the changes/extra color templates to override the default wiki colors by name, i agree on the white for credit items and yellow for GS purchases, ill make a couple of extra templates for current expeditions/expired and limited time items to use "LotS/Cexp", "LotS/Rexp", "LotS/Limited" later today Lorak990 14:50, 24 July 2012 (CDT)

Just Saying Hello/ RMI formatting[edit]

Hey Klaxxin, I know you're mod over a lot of the LotS stuff. Just wanted to give you a heads up that I'm probably going to totally rework a lot of the requirements listing for the Riddle Master Hunt stuff. I started a forum thread today to get some input from users about what they'd prefer to see, but I figured I would let you know personally as well.

  • Are you intending for the labex and labex2 labels to be used on something like Deathmachine? It's technically a lab experiment component, but at the same time, it's also a stand alone item (crew). I went ahead and applied it to Deathmachine just as test look and see, but I kind of don't think it especially fits.
  • Yeah, labex 2 makes Deathmachine look ugly. Lets use labex2 only on items that are "experiment items" or "collection items." I'll see if I can't think of something better for items that are part of lab experiments. Klaxxin (talk) 13:24, 8 August 2012 (MDT)
  • For now, I've gone ahead and applied labex and labex 2 to every item involved in Riddle Master Hunt chains, both the hidden items and the thing being upgraded (when applicable). It still looks a little weird, but at the same time, the information is more accurate, so there's a tradeoff, I guess. If you want, I can revert the ones that are similar to Deathmachine, as mentioned, or we can leave it until there's an alternate solution. Which do you prefer? Also, I didn't see one, so I added a LotS/RaidLink template that automatically colors RaidLinks. Like Professor Squid or Guldax Quibberath (Currently doesn't handle Vince Vortex as a Galaxy Dome raid, but we can talk about that). Last thing, I think we can use varpulls to shorten the labex template to {{LotS/Labex|dragoncycle}} instead of {{LotS/Labex|dragoncycle|Dragon Cycle}}. Anywhere we can avoid repeating text seems like a good idea to me.
  • No quibble with any of your ideas. Vince should be colored Green, since it is an energy raid. I also support your use of varpulls to shorten labex, but I'll leave that to you. I'm not terribly sophisticated when it comes to CSS and wiki markup. I'm more focused on aesthetics and ease of use. Klaxxin (talk) 10:40, 11 August 2012 (MDT)

deleting old users[edit]

    • Unfortunately MediaWiki doesn't actually intend for users to be deleted. The merge and delete page is in fact an extension. I can generate a list of users though by date user mysql, ill post that somewhere. Zoycite (talk) 10:37, 13 August 2012 (MDT)

  • Out of curiosity, why are you interested in deleting the old users? Klaxxin (talk) 13:53, 13 August 2012 (MDT)

Re:LotS raid template[edit]

  • I am a bit confused, the template looks to be functioning? What is the expected result? Do you mean the gap between the tables or the loot table borders are thicker? This looks to be going on with the CSS if it is the thicker border. The fix to combine the tables might be a bit trickier, but I would first put the table's CSS into the style tags, it should be all all or none thing here; that is either all style tags or all classes, dont use both. Also I would recommend not putting basic styles in the MediaWiki common files since it makes it harder to edit and gets cached, you and users may have to reload with ctrl+F5 and such to see the changes. - Zoycite (talk) 02:28, 16 August 2012 (MDT)
    • Okay so I opened up firebug and examined to see what the issue is. It appears to be a CSS problem, but easily fixed. I took a screen shot so you can see. That the table which is the loot table is missing its style tags which remove the margin. The yellow area in the screen shot is the margin. The table code in html is highlighted blue.
    • KlaxxinLotSTables1.gif
    • Zoycite (talk) 02:48, 16 August 2012 (MDT)
      • Oh yeah just wanted to add, the first table with no styles/classes at the top is the advertisement. I was confused for a second on that one. - Zoycite (talk) 02:53, 16 August 2012 (MDT)
        • I will look at it a bit later. I am in the process of moving a pretty big distance and starting a new job. It might be a week or two before I can debug the CSS. Try Lorak or Danxor in the mean time. I will try my best to get to it as soon as I can. - Zoycite (talk) 10:40, 16 August 2012 (MDT)

raid templates[edit]

just so you know as you seem to be working on the raid templates, there are 3 in use right now LotS/raid-special (needs work), LotS/raid, LotS/raidalt and may need one more that only has 1 entry for the LotS/raids/general/The Murderer page unless raidalt hp entries are changed to ifexist entries, unknown if higher difficulties get unlocked as you complete them in missions. Adding Red Alert text/image to raids?

Edited by 2 users.
Last edit: 15:50, 11 March 2014

Hey Klaxxin, I wanted to get your thoughts on whether or not you see any value in adding the red alert icons and text to the raid pages. There's not really any information there; it would just be to add a little more flavor. Here's an example:

Besalaad Warmaster
Besalaad Warmaster Size Max Players Tactics Timer Cooldown
Colossal 500 6 160 hours 72 hours
Difficulty Health Fair Share Optimal Fair Share
Normal 700,000,000 1,400,000 2,100,000
Hard 875,000,000 1,750,000 2,625,000
Legendary 1,120,000,000 2,240,000 3,360,000
Nightmare 1,400,000,000 2,800,000 4,200,000
Male, Organic Humanoid, Zone 5
Besalaad Warmaster (Red Alert) The aggressive imperialists of the Besalaad chose to side with the Centurian Collective, and supplied them with technology to use against the Sian Empire. Now <Player> is out for revenge against one of their Warmasters. Why not help strike a blow against the alien menace?

As far as I can tell, all raids (general, alliance, wr, rs) have Red Alert icons except for Purple Lion, for some reason. I've already got all the info to do them, so I should be able to add the images and text to the wiki, and then change the LotS/raid template to show them all at once.

Doomcat (talk)04:29, 11 February 2013

I'm not sure adding the red alerts is necessary. The Raid Data display the exact same text on the Raid Data pages. See Warmaster Kardoc Data.

Also, how'd you get ahold of all the missing zone runs data? That data was taking literally years to collect.

Klaxxin (talk)09:03, 11 February 2013

Good point about the Raid Data text. It's not *exactly* the same words, "Now <Player> is out for revenge against one of their Warmasters." versus "Now you can get a little payback by taking out one of their Warmasters." but I do see now that the distinction between the two is of no real value. The only two points of interest left then are the icons, if we want those, and on raids where we don't have access to the Raid Data, like World Raids, the only place on the wiki the Red Alert text appears is in the Patch Notes, like this block for Cerebral Destroyer:

Arms manufacturers are always keen to develop the latest innovative weaponry -- products which might earn them a bigger chunk of the interstellar slaughter market and let them rake in the credits. But these days it takes a lot to make the galaxy sit up and take notice. If an up-and-coming company wants to grab headlines and play with the big boys like Terminus and Kill-Tech, they have to bring out something impressive. Something big. Something crazy... Like a giant, genetically engineered brain with psychic powers, mounted on a ship for use in space combat. At least that's what one group of boffins came up with. However, the problem with crazy experiments is that they often have equally crazy consequences. In this case, the brain decided to assume control of the ship, blast the crew out of the airlocks, and take revenge on humanity for its creation. As usual, it's up to you to fix this mess before things get any worse...

I'm not offended if you don't think it has enough value to merit putting anywhere else on the wiki, but I figured I'd at least toss the idea out there.

Regarding the mission runs data, it was pretty much entirely data that I'd collected, but hadn't gotten around to keying in over the past few weeks. I've personally ramped up trying to get a few mission drops as well as AP for zone completions. A couple were numbers that were shared with me, but I'm pretty confident in them. If there's other data that you feel is missing on the wiki and would like me to make it my next priority, I can try to do that. My next goal is to help ensure that the puzzle hunt description text is on the wiki ASAP after, I believe, tomorrow's update.

Doomcat (talk)06:39, 12 February 2013

Whoops, I also forgot we don't have Raid Data for Alliance raids.

Wahsh Al-Sahraa:

Sleesha Wulkar, the famous Snuuth chef, led an expedition into the forbidding wastes of a desert planet -- searching for unique meats and spices to tantalize her restaurant's patrons. But their aircraft crashed, and according to the frantic distress signal there's something approaching the chef and her companions. Something big. If <Alliance> doesn't get there in time, the chef might become the main course.
Doomcat (talk)06:55, 12 February 2013

I think it would be a good addition, if there's a way to add it as a collapsed box and with the option for linking the raid data or stating guild summon/Word Raid/Dev Summon if available. if you need help tracking any of the info down, let me know.

Lorak990 (talk)08:49, 14 February 2013

Yeah, I wouldn't mind linking the summon data to the raids where it's available. After I do a couple other data entry things, I'll come back around and make an updated proposal.

Page name issue

Last edit: 21:38, 10 August 2013

Should LotS/experiment/Omega Deathmachine be at /omegadeathmachine instead? There's an error with the "obtained from" display here (and anywhere that pulls it), and it seems like that may be the cause, but I didn't want to move it since I'm not very familiar with the complicated structure of the templates and pages here. Thanks!

Bobogoobo (talk)06:02, 10 August 2013

I do believe you are correct. My trick that I always use is copy the page to the new page where it is suppose to be first. My second trick is that I don't really know anything, and I ain't scared to break things :)

I will be happy to answer any questions you might have if you choose to want to learn how the templates here work. It is fairly simple if you look at it from the top down, rather than in the middle of something. In a nut shell the high level view is this: all that should need to be correct is the "Item" pages. Everything else just references the "Item" page. That way information is never duplicated, but can be displayed as needed.

Feel free to break as much as little as you like on the site. As long as you are generally trying to improve things rather than intentionally destroy, you can do what ever you please. Try to leave whatever you do in a working state when you leave the wiki to go play games. Remember, this is a wiki everything you do can be undone, so there is no danger of breaking something permanently. Please have fun and do science-y type things, however if your experiment exploders or grows tentacle arms and you cannot contain it let me know, i have explosion containment apparatti and a large tentacle cutting axe.

Zoycite (talk)10:13, 10 August 2013

This should be fixed.

Klaxxin (talk)21:39, 10 August 2013

Someone, I forget who, took it upon themselves to rename all of the experiment pages to a more readable name. They did a couple, maybe 2 or 3, and then never came back to it. I'm personally fine with reverting the names to the smashed up form, I don't think it matters a lot to readers.

Doomcat (talk)14:57, 3 September 2013

I looked at this project long, long ago as too much work for too little payoff. I opted instead to use the smashed-up names as the wiki formatting.

Deleted The Hat's Footware

Edited by another user.
Last edit: 18:09, 29 July 2013

Hey Klaxxin, I noticed that you deleted LotS/The Hat's Footware|The Hat's Footware with a note about the spelling instead of moving it to The Hat's Footwear. I was curious if you had a reason for deleting it, but since it was causing errors, I changed all references to the bad spelling to the correct spelling and then created the correctly spelled version again (since I didn't know how to resurrect the bad spelling version to move it). If you're cool with that, feel free to ignore this, otherwise, let me know if there's something more correct you were thinking of doing in the future. Doomcat (talk) 01:44, 26 December 2012 (MST)

Doomcat (talk)03:44, 26 December 2012

I probably deleted the page because it had the wrong spelling. I usually "edit-surf" stuff on the wiki to make sure pages are spelled correctly, etc. etc. I probably didn't even look at the author of the edit before I hit the delete button. Sorry we got our wires crossed. Everything looks ok with The Hat's Footwear now, so no further action needed.

Klaxxin (talk)11:13, 26 December 2012

Hey, no worries. I don't think I posted the Footware because I would've double checked, and I wouldn't spell it like that anyway. I mostly just meant that it seems like it would've been easier to move it, but it's not a big deal either way.

Removed references?

Edited by author.
Last edit: 07:06, 26 January 2013

Hey Klaxxin,

Was just wondering why you removed the pop culture references that I added to a few items, but chose not to remove the actual references field that I added to the items template. I think the pop culture references are among the best things about LoaTS, but I occasionally run across one that I don't fully recognize, and I thought the wiki would be a good place to provide information about them.

TomTheHand (talk)15:26, 25 January 2013

While I support the notion of providing pop culture references about items.

Maybe there is a better way such as a page listing references? Possibly there is a way you could just add them all in one place, like and index. If it is on the item page maybe we can put an optional section in the template.

Klaxxin and Lorak990 are the LotS admins so I will defer to them as to how to handle it. I think you have a great idea there Tom.

Zoycite (talk)06:29, 26 January 2013

I had added an optional section to the template, and then I added pop culture references to about half a dozen items. Not very many, I admit, but I tried to do more than just list the names of movies/shows/books that were referenced. Check out an example. I actually think this is much better than adding them all in one place; such a page would have hundreds of different entries. The references thread in the official forums is awful.

TomTheHand (talk)07:05, 26 January 2013

Ah Might have been because it was on the item card itself or something. I am not sure. Maybe should have an optional reference card/section displayed below the item card. Klaxxin can better answer maybe since he deleted.

Zoycite (talk)18:48, 26 January 2013

I can't recall why I removed the references stuff. I think it was because there were fewer than ten references (of the thousands of items currently on the wiki), and I thought that it was inconsistent to display so few references.

I probably removed the references around the time I reformatted the item card. IIRC, I knew about the large number of pop-culture reference in LotS, and so I chose not to remove the "reference" field from the item card, but did remove the field from the item pages.

Here's where I stand on references: if you can promise me that you'll add every reference you know, or that you can dig up on the forums, I'll support it, and I'll fix up the item card template as necessary.

If you are not committed to being the "reference person", and are unwilling to take ownership of the project, then lets leave the references off the wiki, or put references on a single page. I don't want to do 1% of a huge job and have the wiki look less polished as a result. The references stuff is too complex and time-consuming and hardcore to expect that your average wiki denizen is going to pick up the slack and add references. It has to be done by one or two dedicated editors. It'll take weeks or months to finish, and someone will have to add new references as new content comes in.

As for myself, I've probably done more than 5,000 edits on the LotS wiki (don't know the exact number). At the moment, I am unwilling to take on this project.

Klaxxin (talk)01:18, 27 January 2013

Here is one idea... since a lot of games contain references to things why dont we just add a template similar to Template:SubA that make a references display. Example of SubA on Template:LoH/Card. That way we have somethign we can easily tack onto the bottom of pages

Zoycite (talk)10:04, 27 January 2013

personally i think it clutters the item card, I notice some of the references when i'm making the pages, but I'd rather it linked to a section on a references page similar to the lab experiments, then you could just link to a whole section for say cybercop, all lore is a robocop reference rather than adding it to each page

Lorak990 (talk)06:07, 1 February 2013

on that note should we have a References wiki section which is sort of like tropes in their respective games? Then we can just link to our "trope" page for it on the item, npc, etc...

I am trying to think of a solution for more than just LotS here.

Zoycite (talk)10:01, 1 February 2013

In my opinion, the item pages are currently incredibly bare and would be far more useful with more information on them. Moreover, in a great many cases the issue's a lot more complex than "all cybercop gear is a robocop reference." I'm not arguing for a particular format to the references section; it could be bigger, smaller, higher, lower, or wrapped up in a spoiler tag. However, I can't see how the references section makes the article more difficult to read.

With all that said, I'm currently not worried about reinstating the references section; as I said above, I'm going to start collecting references in a personal sandbox. Once we have a few built up, we'll have something concrete to base our discussions on.

TomTheHand (talk)15:18, 1 February 2013

sounds awesome. ill try to come up with maybe a good way to make references on a wiki-wide basis.

Zoycite (talk)12:35, 2 February 2013

If we decide to do references, we may want transcluded templates ala the "How to Obtain" box on Legacy of Heroes (was this what you were saying up above, Zoy?). That way, contributors can add references. The references box would appear separate from the Item Card. This may be a bad solution, give how few of the "How to Obtain" references have been filled on the LoH Wiki. Also, this solution will interfere with ad placement as well as with item cards that have container lists appended underneath. If we choose this option, it means that we'll have to shuffle some content.

I agree with Lorak that just putting this info onto the main item card will make the card look cluttered.

If you can think of something better, Zoy, that'd be super.

Tom, I'm willing to give the references a shot. Incorporating what Doomcat said, I'd like to see 100 or more reference entries before you push the content live on the wiki. If you can do that many, I'm willing to trust that you'll finish the rest. Once you've got the content together, we can finish the discussion as to how this information should be displayed on the wiki.

Klaxxin (talk)23:48, 2 February 2013

I was thinking of adding some kind of template like the how to obtain on LoH yes. I have an Idea to encourage content editing on more than just references. Simple links like "Add reference", "Add link", "Add ______", or something maybe link that, which is like a bulleted list. And if the reference or link or what have you exists then it displays a fancy box of some kind instead.

I am not worried about how it effects ad placement. We can work around them, place different units, etc. That is a very solvable problem that does not have to be worried about.

Tom will do the references, he said he would. We should make sure to give him all the tools to do it, and come to some kind of agreement as well as how it will be done.

More on my idea:

So my idea is that links would appear Like this

Then if say there was a reference it would display a Template:SubA or similar template with the content of [[page/reference]]. And then the list of content to add would only display:

It would only display those 2 because the SubA template has an edit link on it.

Image Upload Issue

Hey, do you know any reason why I might be getting an error that says: Could not create directory "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/0/08". when I try to upload images? I tried both Rex Carnage's Pants and something else, and they both choked

Doomcat (talk)07:24, 1 February 2013

I believe this was a temporary issue with the server, Zoy resolved this and we can upload images again.

Lorak990 (talk)07:47, 5 February 2013

officer/crew template thumbnail link generation vs other templates

The officer page template for Lots auto generates 40 pixel version thumbnails from full size images. For example, here's the url from the thumbnail image on left in list for kole: Specifically the part that says 40px-LotS_Admiral_Kole.png Crew page also uses a similar template.

Many of the other templates require a separate thumbnail image, such as the utilities template. For example the anniversary bot icon thumbnail image link is: This requires a separate smaller icon image. Its easier for someone updating the wiki to just upload a single image and let the template auto generate a smaller version for the icons. My suggest is to change the coding in the other template pages that generate those icon/thumbnail links to match the officer/crew pages.

Gnyta (talk)02:46, 24 November 2012

I changed all of the templates. Please let me know if you find anything strange.

Klaxxin (talk)11:59, 24 November 2012

Just wanting to point out an issue here and some reasoning behind it, LotS uses 3 image sizes when displaying the game to you, xlarge (random size) for profile, a medium (usually 128px max) for the fusion, and the icon (48px max) you see in inventory and these are scaled depending on the detected browser window size. - we use the latter two for item and list pages in their raw format from cache, the issue you run into is the whitespace around xlarge/medium images can be random for equipment and when applying the 40px reduction, you get a 5px image or warped looking image if the image is not at least 40px wide/tall or square, examples of this are on the helmet page, Screaming Skull Mask, Xin Nian Long Mask, when pulling the cached icon file you get a auto cropped version that sizes well for the list pages.

basically what i'm trying to point out is that if there was one 128x128px image it would be simple. The images in general can be fixed, but this can be time consuming as sometimes there is not a correctly sized image to work with, using the stock icon adds a little time but nothing compared to editing images, maybe this can be done with a server side auto crop image script in the future.

Lorak990 (talk)08:58, 28 November 2012

Should I revert those pages back to using the 40px icons? I was trying to save time, not make work.

Klaxxin (talk)09:01, 28 November 2012

id say revert for now on equipment pages, consumables/tactics/officers/utilities/trinkets/ships/crew use a standard 128px image so the current template works for them, thinking a clone of the template with the icon for equipment pages.

Raid page inconsistencies

I'd like to talk to you about the raid pages, as you're the most recent user to edit them. They have some inconsistencies, you see, with the Optimal Fair Share and the Fair Share. All the 10-player raids have an OS of 125% of the FS, but the 50-player raids have an OS of 220% of the FS, 230% for 100 player, the same exact FS and OS for 250 player, and 150% for 500 player. Did you imput these values, or were they left by some of the users before you?

The correct numbers are as follows:

  • 10-person ofs = fs * 1.25
  • 50-person ofs = fs * 2.20
  • 100-person ofs = fs * 2.30
  • 250-person ofs = fs * 1
  • 500-person ofs = fs *1.5

If these values are what you are seeing, then they are correct.

How exactly do you get these numbers?

Other people calculated these numbers. I've heard people mention those numbers from the day I started playing. You might find more information on the official 5PG forums.

I solved at least one of the template issues. The issue I have now is the row-building on the raid templates. There are ghost cells at the bottom of each tier on the raid template in the difficulty column. Those cells should render empty but they're not. Hard to explain >.> I'm not a programmer... I just know enough wiki markup to get by.
