| 5. A lot of people had egg on their faces when the truth emerged. Literal as well as figurative, since the masses weren't too impressed to learn that they'd been deceived. News anchors and reporters had to lie low for weeks afterwards -- to escape the volleys of abuse and rotten foodstuffs hurled in their direction whenever they ventured outside. Perhaps such treatment wasn't entirely fair. After all, they argued, how were they supposed to know that it was a guy in a suit? It's not as if they'd ever encountered any real aliens to use as a comparison point. | |
