Like the {{LotS/ColorLink|LotS/White Noise Pod|White Noise Pod|White}}, this device is a reference to the Apple [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPod iPod].  Apple sold limited-edition red iPod nano and shuffle models as part of [http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product_Red '''(PRODUCT)<sup>RED</sup>'''], which raises awareness and funds to fight AIDS in Africa.  The term "red noise" is often used to refer to [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brownian_noise Brownian noise], which is random but weighted toward lower frequencies.  It does not generally fill individuals with violent rage.

This weapon is a reference to the hand-held [http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Type_2_phaser Type 2 phaser] from [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek Star Trek].  Its graphic most closely resembles the phasers used in the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_The_Original_Series Original Series] and the movies that featured the Original Series cast.
