|text=4. Aloysius Zeroth knew Earth faced an alien threat, one that defied conventional military might -- beyond the reach of human retaliation whilst it remained outside the planet's orbit. So he prepared an unconventional response. He scoured the world and located other men and women who likewise possessed superhuman abilities. Today it's believed that these individuals should all be classified as different forms of psychic, akin to contemporary pyrokineticists and the like. But at the time of the Quiskerian attack, the popular nomenclature was 'Emergent'. In any event, Zeroth gathered these Emergents into a team known as the Genesis Squadron, and led them on a mission against the alien ships.

At other times they encountered isolated exploration ships, which could be obliterated without consequence. But eventually mutual expansion brought their empire close to that of the Huk-Kral. Perhaps the Quiskerians had become haughty becuase of their success, and believed themselves invincible. In any event, when members of the two species both laid claim to the same world, the Quiskerians declared war.
