SARAH SALT
'It's the economy, stupid!' Those are the words my next guest, a renowned socio-economist, used to explain the increasing number of people who're turning to a life of costumed crime. Welcome to the show, Dr. Klein.

DR. KLEIN
Thank you for having me, Sarah.

SARAH SALT
Dr. Klein, do you really believe that unemployment is enough to turn people into masked madmen?

DR. KLEIN
I believe it can be a major contributing factor, yes. For example, think about The Gingerhaired Men.

SARAH SALT
The bizarre clown-like individuals who work for The Mad Confectionist?

DR. KLEIN
Precisely. These men made a living handing out candy samples. They had jobs, lives, and families just like everyone else. Then the company closed down, and they were left squatting in the factory like animals -- victims of America's manufacturing decline! Of course they became villains!

SARAH SALT
But what about rumors that notorious cult-leader Daddy-O radicalized the men, convincing them to aid The Mad Confectionist?

DR. KLEIN
Radicalized them into becoming killer clowns? I doubt it...
