Lightblades are normally used outside of the races, when two or more adrenaline and ego-fueled racers decide to settle their differences through brutal (though usually also rather artistic and flamboyant) armed combat. However, some particularly reckless individuals have been known to use them in the middle of a race -- riding by their opponents and slicing their Photon Runners open with a well timed slash.
