|text=Being a prince was supposed to be fun. It should have been about zipping around the countryside on his hoverboard, shooting peasants... Or was that pheasants? Either would have been fine. Instead, his parents expected him to attend etiquette lessons, and learn how to use three thousand different forks.

So he hid in the family's experimental cryogenic stasis chamber, where he intended to freeze-sleep until his day's training sessions were over. He succeeded. When he woke up, his tutors were no longer waiting around to teach him things he didn't want to learn. Largely because they'd all been dead for years.

Wilhelm mourned. Then he shrugged. According to the chronicles, his parents had lived full lives (spent studying forks, most likely, then tut-tutting over people who failed to employ them appropriately). And his sister -- now a disapproving old matron -- allowed him to take a stipend from the royal coffers, grab a guard's assault rifle, and head out into the galaxy to see what life awaited him there.
