|text=11. He fired twice. The target -- a Vlarg with pale pink fur and gleaming fangs -- fell one way. The lower halves of his legs fell in different directions. They wanted him alive. But they never said he had to be in one piece. The Vlarg howled. But he was tough. He raised his weapon when Kell sauntered over, ignoring agony in the hope of returning the favor with interest. Tough, but a bad shot. At least in his present condition. The Vlarg fired wide. Kell didn't. The Vlarg's pistol and his right hand flew off into the undergrowth. His left hand might have been moving out of instinct, to clutch his new stump -- its end already cauterized into a seared mess by the rifle's blast. Maybe. But the manhunter didn't feel like taking a chance. He fired again. The Vlarg's second hand flew away to chase the first.
