As always, she looked him up and down before speaking, her three eyes probing for signs of injury. When she was satisfied that he'd emerged from his latest exploit intact, she gave him what he liked to call 'the usual': inquiries about when he'd last eaten or slept (followed by disapproving glares when he told the truth), and not-so-subtle suggestions that he take a vacation. After he absorbed or deflected her various stages of disapproval, she told him about the job they'd been offered.
