Roth whistled. Metal hooves clicked and clomped as his robot horse emerged from between two buildings. A dark shape thrashed on its back -- bound limbs struggling, gagged mouth gnawing beneath a mass of coifed hair.

But Marshal Roth had already disappeared back into the shadows. His horse trotted after him a minute later, relieved of its burden. Behind them justice was done -- for Edward Michaelhouse and his murderess.
